China consumer prices rise 1.9% in September

Chinese consumer prices rose 1.9% in September from the year-earlier month, easing slightly from 2% in August, according to official data released Monday.

The monthly producer price index, which measures wholesale prices, dropped 3.6% in September from the year-ago month, more than the 3.4% drop expected by economists, and also greater than the 3.5% fall recorded in August.

Mainland Chinese stocks fell after the data, with the Shanghai Composite Index losing 0.1% to 2,102.47.
